Recently, my friend Drea from The Cult Collective and I organized a night hike and invited members of our social networks to join our grown-up adventure club. The only information we shared were the following GPS coordinates: 34.050803, -118.557169.
The trailhead for the 5.7-mile roundtrip hike to Parker Mesa Overlook is discretely located at the top of a steep, narrow road that winds through the Pacific Palisades. We were joined by some new friends from the Instagram community, including Chris, the blogger behind Treehouse Riots, and Puno, the co-founder of Map.
Once we verified that no one was a serial killer, we put on our headlamps and quickly ascended into the dense layer of fog.
The view from the overlook was nonexistent as the fog continued to swallow us whole, but no one seemed too upset. I shared a fresh bag of gummy octopi with my new friends and shot some night photos that looked like they were taken from a scene of E.T.
As we hiked back down the mountain, we enjoyed a pretty view of the city lights that had been tucked under the marine layer. I made everyone freeze for one last night photo before we reached the end of the trail.
Despite the fog, this little night hike was a grown-up dream of mine. Special thanks to everyone who showed up for a Monday night hike in the dark.
If you live in Los Angeles, you are cordially invited to join us for the 2nd meeting of Adventure Club. We will post the invite on Instagram, so please be sure to follow me (@attkofthe50ftwmn). I hope to see you on the trail, adventurers!
